Why Should I Aerate My Lawn?
Aeration is an essential part of caring for your lawn. It offers numerous benefits including:

- Increases the lawns health and its ability to cope with drought and disease
- Provides an overall healthier and greener looking lawn
Types Of Aeration
There are two types of aeration used in the treatment of lawns
These are Hollow Tine and Fracture tine aeration
Hollow Tine

An effective way to reduce the amount if sub surface thatch. It works by removing numerous cores from the lawn to provide increased access for oxygen, water and fertiliser to the roots.
Fracture Tine

A mechanical process that involves the use of blades that cut small slits into the lawn, what this does is break up the surface slightly to allow a greater flow of nutrients into the roots.
This process is a cleaner process, as no soil is removed from the soil which need clearing
Its recommended to follow aeration with scarification which clears any trapped moss and sub thatch which is bagged for disposal ( unless there is a compost heap available)
We will examine your lawn to discover if aeration is required and if so the recommended type that we should use, this will depend on how compacted the soil is and the amount of sub thatch
Is Aeration Done by Hand Or With A Machine?

On larger lawns a machine aerator is used, if space or access is limited than we will aerate by hand.
What Time Of Year Should Your Lawn Be Aerated?
The best time is both spring and late summer/autumn.
These periods are the best to allow maximum air and water to get to the roots.
It is also common to aerate even in the coldest temperatures becomes it is very helpful in breaking down heavily compared soil, improving drainage
